Beginner Workshop
Our clinics are open to all breeds. Come out and experience what it is like to really work with your dog!
The third Friday of each month is beginner night. Bring your dog out and learn all about herding.
During the beginner clinic you will receive:
- Instruction on the theory of Sheep herding (how it is supposed to work)
- Role-playing exercise (your dog will know what to do, but will you?)
- Video Instruction (we will show you video of what is happening to help you and your dog)
- A herding handout
- A herding development schedule
- Two runs with your dog and the Sheep
- Access to a Clever Canines Instructor to help with basic obedience skills that will support you in herding
With the support of Russ, you will be the one handling your dog which will help both you and your dog learn where to be and what to do.
The goal of this session is to have fun! This introductory class will help you decide if you would like to continue having fun with your dog and potentially get ready to herd your own stock or participate in trials.

Where to go - Bar H Lazy H located off of Glenmore Trail and RR 284, SE
Head EAST on Glenmore Trail to RR 284. From Deerfoot Trail it will take you about 15 minutes to reach the Bar H Lazy H.
Range Road 284 is your first right after you pass Heather Glenn golf course. (Bar H is on the South side of Glenmore Trail. It is the only barn there. It is your first left after you exit off Glenmore Trail)
When you get there - Be prepared to leave your dog in your vehicle until it is your time with the sheep. Keep your dog on leash to avoid them chasing after horses, cats or other distractions. Should your dog chase a horse, you will be asked to leave (barn rules).
What to Wear - We are in a barn that is not heated and is quite dusty so do not wear your 'best' clothes. Layers are important. The barn will shelter us from any wind or precipitation. Check the weather and dress appropriately!
What to Bring - A camera, and a good sense of humour!
Novice Workshops - Once you have attended the beginner workshop, your name and email address will be added to our Evite guest list where you will receive invitations to all future herding clinics. (Evite is an on-line electronic invitation system.)
